Cherries and Roses

I found a little time for a small applique project and you know I love cherries.

Turns out, they now match my new kitchen. Now I find myself looking back at all the cherry motif items I have found and sold in our little shop over the years, that would also look cute in my kitchen. Oh well.

I am happy to be picking up a quilt from the quilter today, so I will show you as soon as I have the binding on it. I am in the cutting out process for a new quilt (pattern pictured above).

I've had a large piece of the big rose fabric sitting on my shelf for quite a while. I love it but hadn't figured out what to do with it. I went looking through my pattern stash and found this one that highlights a large floral fabric. I will be using an assortment of coordinating fabrics to frame the blocks and to keep the quilt "happy". I like happy quilts! Now, I must add that we are in the process of getting our home ready to go on the market so we can downsize when Gary retires at the end of the year, so my posts may be fewer and farther between for a while, but I hope you will still check in from time to time. I really appreciate your comments and friendship. Love, Derrith

So Close...

This "Pumpkin Hill" quilt has taken me a long time to finish. I am to the point where I just need borders and then it's finally off to the quilters. You won't have to see it again until it's quilted and done. This is the first quilt I've done where I appliqued with the edges tucked under. I used a method using glue. I tried the starch method and it frustrated me. Am I eager to do another using this method?  Nooooo. I'm afraid I'm a little bit too impatient for it. I am quite content with bonding and blanket stitching applique. I know....lazy girl! Thanks for stopping by today. It makes me happy to have the wonderful blogging friends that I do.  -Derrith

My first Table Runner

Hard to believe, but I have never made a Table Runner before now. I thought I needed one for my new kitchen so I gathered together a range of greys with a couple silver metallics and a few punches of red. I quilted it (not sure I like the puffy results)  and decided at the last minute to sew binding around it so it wouldn't disappear on a white table.  I tried it out on a red tablecloth (is it OK to use table runners on table cloths?) and I wasn't crazy about the look.

Soooo, off came the table cloth and it looks much better, I think.

I was hoping to bring in the colors of the room, which is predominantly grey and white with touches of red. I think it livened up that end of the kitchen nicely.  Now I am ready for 4th of July company. How are YOUR plans going? Love, Derrith

Almost there.

Well, I finished Block 6 of Pumpkin Hill while I was at the beach.

Now, I just have the header block and borders to go! I'm still hoping to have it done and quilted by fall. Fingers crossed!  See you again soon.  -Derrith

Bella Beach and Depoe Bay

Gary and I just spent a week on the Oregon Coast as guests of some dear friends. We stayed in Depoe Bay, but not far away was a relatively new development called "Bella Beach". These first few pics are of homes there. you can see the ocean behind this fun beach house.

I love this colonial beach house.

This house was really large with a beautiful garden. You can see the boardwalk they have for a sidewalk on this street.

I wish my picture had done justice to the garden in front of this cute home. The colors were so beautiful.

Quintessential cedar shake beach cottage with starfish cut-outs on the railings. Love it!

These homes surrounded the neighborhood park.

Cute little neighborhood bakery and coffee house.

This is us on a foggy day on the beach in Newport, OR.

We stayed at the Worldmark resort in Depoe Bay. This was the view from our balcony to the extreme left.

This was the view to the left and ...

this was the view to the right at sunset. Ahhhhhh. It was such a lovely, relaxing week! I hope your summer is going as you hoped. I so appreciate that you have taken the time to visit and I hope you'll come again soon.  Love, Derrith

Waving the Flag

I don't have any brand new patriotic projects to debut, so I am recycling a few pics from my archives to celebrate the 4th of July. I hope you enjoy...

...these past projects, etc.  Please share your Americana with me. I do love it! -Derrith

Pumpkin Hill block Six

Well, one more Pumpkin Hill block done. My progress on these has been slow. I thought I would have it done before summer began, but alas, no. There is just one more block to do and then the header and borders. I hope to step it up so I can actually have it quilted and ready to hang on the wall for fall. We had a lovely Father's Day with family all around. I hope yours was happy too. See you again soon. Love, Derrith

Mellow Summer Get Together

The June meeting of my quilt group always takes place at Candy's Farm. It is a warm, wonderful, inviting place, as it should be since that also describes Candy. Our numbers were relatively small, but we have a wonderful meal and time to chat and catch up with each other. Jayna started off the show and tell with her almost completed Lady Bug quilt. So stinkin' cute!

She is making it for her grand daughter, who just had a Lady Bug Birthday Party. As you can see, Jayna was the life of the party.

Pat K. is working on these darling wool pieces. There will be six altogether I love the buttons!

Our hostess, Candy gave her monthly progress report on her very ambitious plans for a queen size Hex quilt.

Candy is also working on this too-cute-for-words bunny quilt that we all were crazy over.

Don't you love it?!

I wish you could see the detail on this bag. Margy, who is constantly mastering new techniques on her embroidery machine, made this. The front looks like lace, but it is all created by her machine. The picture doesn't do it justice.

Here is just a little peek at Candy's farm. We had such a good time and it will have to hold us until September because we don't have meetings during the summer months. Thank you for visiting today. Keep smiling!-Derrith
