"Vintage Gathering" Flea Market

There was only one "Vintage Gathering" Flea Market sale this summer, which is sad, but it was great. I got to take my daughter, Heidi who was here visiting for our family reunion.

Heidi found these cute dish towels with a raw edge muslin pleated ruffle. They were unadorned so she asked me to applique something on them for her, so Beehives it was.

Love these plump organic looking pillows.

There were gorgeous flowers everywhere - my favorite thing!

So many fun vintage items. I found a very old (1909) book titled "The Rose Fairie and Other Stories". Of course, it had to come home with me.  I am putting it to use on my pages for the Fairie Book Swap at karlascottage.typepad.com.

Who can resist blue and white?

My daughter bought this old painting. She will clean it up a little and paint the frame and hang it in her daughter, Ashey's room.

SEABROOK, WA. Summer Dreamin'

A couple weeks ago, I had the occasion to visit a friend on the central Washington coast. She lives and works at the "Ocean Crest Resort" which her family has owned for years in Moclips, Wa. It is a beautiful resort with stunning Ocean Views.  Just a few miles down the road from there was the village of Seabrook, WA.

I had heard of Seabrook, but had never seen it and I fell in love with it. Each cottage has it's own charm, reminiscent of Eastern seaboard beach houses.  Seabrook isn't right on the beach but very close by.

It's a planned community with a little central shopping area. We had lunch at the only restaurant and the food was wonderful.

I believe the developers of this community are the same ones who have one in Lincoln City, OR.

I find the small cottages rather irresistible.

I love exploring the Pacific Northwest and finding these gems. Maybe one day I will be able to take some pictures in actual sunshine!  :-)

Seaside Oregon Family Reunion

We just returned from our Family Reunion at Seaside Oregon. It was a wonderful week and the cousins had the time of their lives. Obviously the beach was the main attraction, both day and night.

The weather was quite perfect for us and we stayed at the Worldmark by Wyndham resort right on the beach.  Most of the kids visited the beach AND the pool daily.

This is my daughter, Holly with her youngest, Delaney. Holly is our family photographer and my technical support person! We were so happy that she and her 4 girls and my other daughter, Heidi and her family could come from Utah to be with the Washington contingent of the family!

Our teenage kids loved the bonfires on the beach at night, tanning, and shopping in town!

Cousins Katherine and Heidi employed a luggage cart for their "photo shoot" in their matching outfits.

Before leaving for the beach, I was lucky enough to have all my grandchildren (but one) together for family pictures. We took them at the Peterson's fabulous Party Barn in Woodland Washington. As you can see, the girls outnumber the boys, 11 to 3 ! How blessed I am to have these sweeties in my life!

Miss Manners Tea Party

I promised pictures of the Tea Party/Manners Class that I have been preparing for and here they are.  We had 8 classes over two days for 8 - 11 year old girls and it was very fun. My grand daughter Gabrielle, decorated the cakes and did most of the baking and food prep for me.

This was a little exercise for the girls. I covered a piece of sheet metal with fabric and used magnets to attach it to the chalk board. Then I put magnets on the silverware, plates and cup and had the girls try to set the table properly. They had fun with it, although very few actually knew where everything should go.

We served a small piece of sheet cake, a mini muffin, sesame cracker with cream cheese and marmalade spread, strawberry and homemade mints.  We added a scoop of sherbet a bit later in the class.

The girls were so sweet and enthusiastic and asked lots of good questions.

We had 24 girls at a time and 5 minutes in between so it was hectic but I had a couple grand daughters and friends helping in the kitchen. A few of the girls wrote me little thank you notes for the class, so at least some of the lesson sunk in!

Where-Bloggers-Create Party Post

Welcome to my creative space. Since I am "Tied Up In Ribbon", I thought I would start with some of my ribbon collection which I enjoy displaying. I often bring home ribbon when I travel. It's a lot of fun for a little money and fits easily into luggage!

Glitter looms large in my world. I won't bore you with all my collection, but suffice it to say, I will be prepared for any Glittery occasion!

I've always enjoyed gift wrapping.  I consider it to be part of the gift I am giving, so of course I also need to make room for a lot of wrapping paper and adornments.

I LOVE red! It seems to creep in to nearly all my quilts and aprons that I make and I have a tough time resisting cheerful red fabric or ribbons.

I have to show you my sewing room a little at a time (in other words, the organized parts only) I see pictures of women's studios that are pristine and clutter-free and I wish that was me, but alas, that's not who I am. As you can see, above, I covered cereal boxes with fabric to house the magazines I want to keep.  I have read that you should keep craft and sewing supplies in see-through containers so you know what you have. I have done this to some extent, but I find that plastic containers and bins are not very photogenic!

This has been a great addition to my sewing room. I had it custom made to fit over the pull out drawers that hold my fabric stash. On top of it, I keep current quilts and other projects in small bins.

I can't resist "Happy" fabrics. Here is just a small sampling.  I consider myself a quilter primarily so my sewing machine holds the place of honor in the room (in the middle, facing the TV!)

This is a little wall quilt I did for a contest. Below it is a great container I found to hold my acrylic paint. It swivels to reveal the other colors I have. I sometimes wish that I could just concentrate on making quilts, or sewing for my home, or painting or making over furniture or doing any number of crafts, but...I am easily distracted by any new fun thing I want to try and so, my sewing/craft room is filled to the brim with supplies of every variety.  Thanks for visiting. Tea Party Preparations

I've been asked to teach a class on Manners to 140 young ladies at my church in a week. We will be having a Tea Party...well actually 8 Tea Parties since the girls (aged 8 - 11) will be divided into 8 groups.

I have been having TOO much fun preparing for this! I wanted to share some of the fun things I have been collecting. As you can see my color scheme is pink, hot pink and Tourquoise. I learned how to make these cute mints from my daughter-in-law. They are so simple: 1 cup of powdered sugar to 1 ounce of cream cheese-blend well, and add a few drops of color and a drop or so of flavor (lemon, vanilla, almond, etc.).  Then, roll them into little balls, dip ball in granulated sugar and dip rubber mold in sugar. Press dough in mold and immediately pop it out to dry. So easy!

A few trips to Goodwill netted me this old brass candle stick which I promptly spray painted pink.

I found two identical 3-tiered plate stands which I also painted. I couldn't resist making these fabulous large tissue flowers that I have been seeing all over Pinterest. I made some in hot pink as well, and will glue together for a hanging pom pom at the party.

This is the poster I made for one wall. I wish photos picked up glitter better because I loaded it on! My philosophy has always been "you can never have too much glitter"!

I cut pennants from my fabric stash to hang from the ceiling. I found these tiny clothespins and spray painted them pink, of course. I will take pictures at the event so we can both see how it all turns out. Check back in a week or so! I hope you're all enjoying your summer!

Summer Beachy Mantel

I thought I would try for a summer beachy look for my mantel for "The Lettered Cottage.net's" party. My mantel is very shallow, so I can't put anything very tall on it, but I still had fun doing this.

While we are in a beachy mood, I thought I would share the "Under the Sea" quilt I made. Here is is displayed in our "Olive Kat" shop. It was a combination of a block pattern and some elements I made up. It is basically all applique.

Here is the mantel in it's (awkward) entirety. So, now I am in the mood to go to the beach! Fortunately, we have a family reunion at Seaside in three weeks!

Happy Birthday America
